hi guys. i've got a strange problem with burning a dvd. the media is i-tech dvd-rw, the drive is:
$ dmesg | grep "DVD"
ata2.00: ATAPI: SlimtypeDVD A DS8A4S, JL61, max UDMA/100, ATAPI AN
scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM Slimtype DVD A DS8A4S JL61 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
and the command is:
$ growisofs -Z /dev/cdrw=./context/downloads/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso
WARNING: /dev/cdrw already carries isofs!
About to execute 'builtin_dd if=./context/downloads/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/cdrw obs=32k seek=0'
i tried to blank the disk but nothing changed except the warning. the command simply hangs and the drive doesn't even spin up. wtf can be wrong?
p.s. uname -rm gives 2.6.33-ARCH x86_64

Are you running this as root?

no. as a normal user.

Try as root. If that works, it's a permission problem.

actually i tried the both before starting the thread ;) the permissions seem to be ok, i'm a member of 'optical' group. and i can't show you any logs caz they don't contain any useful messages. i'm curious about the issue because i used to burn both cds and dvds just a month ago and everything worked fine. i'll try to install an older version tomorrow.
