AL with promise raid-0 (ataraid)

Hey guys!

I'm pretty new to AL and wont to clean my harddiscs from SuSE... you know where I'm comming from lol

I got three harddiscs in my router/fileserver:
1 normal (non-raid) hd with the a swop partition a the root partition
2 raided (raid-0) hds for the /usr/ftp

I've configured and installed my own version of the 2.4.19 (should work for me and my raid system ) (btw: cool smilies!!!)
:?: So now here's my question:
I can't find the /dev/atairaid/dXpY , but I need them to mount my raid-0 hd

Anybody got a suggestion for me???

Greetings
Moritz

Re: AL with promise raid-0 (ataraid)

did you insert initrd=/boot/initrd.img in lilo.conf?

for me the ide-scsi emulation works only, when i boot with a initrd.

Re: AL with promise raid-0 (ataraid)

Hey Sitor!

No, I've not tried that out.
But I tried to install the raid controller on my suse and it works. I've compiled the kernel with support for the controller and mounted the filesystem via "mount /dev/ataraid/d0p1 /home"

Why do you use the initrd? I've never made my own initrd (well, I even don't know how to creat them  lol )

Maybe that's the solution of my problem....

Re: AL with promise raid-0 (ataraid)

Could anyone suggest some sites for a nOOb to read/learn about various settings & optimizations for RAID-0 in Linux?

I'll be installing a SATA RAID-0 in a few days and would appreciate any tips/tricks and websites that you have found useful.

Thanx !!

You could always try the linux raid howto.  You should be able to google it.  That's how I found all my information when I had to set it up (mind you, it was two years ago).
