Does the humble-bundle license allows you to do it?

There's nothing illegal. You just put your bought Aquaria with pkgbuild etc. and it will set up the game for you.

The game is not included, you could have inspected the files/scripts there  roll

Argh, my apologies!

Aquaria works well here from chrooted 32bit environment, but as usual I had to disable joystick, since my mouse for some reason always is recognized as a joystick and a mouse at the same time.

How did you disable the joystick? I had to disable the joystick in Gish because I kept moving left even though I was not pressing anything. However, even if I set all the joystick controls to 0 in Aquaria, I still keep moving left, and cannot keep still.

What a great idea.  I hadn't heard about Gish before so worth it for that alone (oh, and that all these games support Linux).  Went ahead and bought the bundle for $15, couldn't have made a better purchase.

Re: The Humble Indie Pack: pay what you want

Little status update here from me smile
I went and bought the package for 10U$ (yes, I know I am cheap).

Aquaria runs perfectly with the radeon opensource drivers inside a 32 bit chroot. Haven't tested with 64 bit though.
World of goo runs natively 64 bit. Penumbra Overture bombs out with multiple errors but I suspect that the radeon opensource driver is the issue for this behaviour. On my Ubuntu 9.10 x64 box with closed source NVidia driver Penumbra runs fine. Very scary game. The 3D graphic is not that good but the game has a strong atmosphere. I think if you play this with headsets at night and someone touches you unexpectedly you'll simply drop dead of your chair *ggg*

Big thumbs up to all game companies involved.

Re: The Humble Indie Pack: pay what you want

I'm thinking about giving $20USD to try to help bump up Linux past $15. I already have Penumbra Collection when they were giving it away for $5 so I might give this key to a friend.

Has anyone successfully played all the games on Arch64, especially on the Nvidia proprietary driver?

I didn't have any of these games but was very impressed by the World of Goo demo which I only recently tried. I payed $20 (£13), great value.

Re: The Humble Indie Pack: pay what you want

I paid $15 of it the other day. The only one I had heard of before was world of goo, but the others are quite good as well. I'm surprised, but pleased, that world of goo and gish have x86_64 versions. They both work pretty well with radeon drivers + gallium3d. The other three I have in a 32bit chroot and all work, but penumbra is to slow to play. The chroot only has mesa 7.7 atm, so hopefully it will get better with 7.8, git or gallium3d.

Anywhos, I am looking forward to playing these games properly once my exams are over.

Re: The Humble Indie Pack: pay what you want

I just paid $20 for the bundle. I've already played World of Goo before (purchased through their website) but I don't mind paying again. In fact, as long as we have indie developers that produce cross-platform, drm-free games, I'll pay as much as I can even if I don't like/play the game.

For such a cause, I believe everyone should pay the maximum amount they can. If I could, I'd gladly pay $100.

Remember that these aren't open source projects. $100 seems a bit much, especially since $80 is what it costs to normally buy these games tongue

Hey bobdob,

May I ask which ATI card you have ?

For me (ATI HD4670) running Penumbra gives an error. roll

I am running the standard radeon driver with the following driver:
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV730 9490) 20090101  TCL DRI2
OpenGL version string: 1.5 Mesa 7.7.1

Pretty straight forward what arch provides "out-of-the-box" smile

TIA,

$80 is what "big studios" demand for their games. They have much higher income/cost ratios compared to indie developers. Hence, from an indie-supporting point of view, $80 is actually too little.

Re: The Humble Indie Pack: pay what you want

I know this isn't quite the right place to do this, but I want to support this effort...

I don't play games mainly because I have a whole bunch of other stuff that I like to do, but I was curious about World of Goo. I downloaded the demo and it's pretty freakin' cool. It runs great on my 64 bit machine with minimal dependencies. I can see that game being highly addictive.

It installs fine in the directory of your choice.

It is also self contained in that directory by the look of it.

Well, that's nice and everything, but still a package-based approach is more like the Arch Way wink

I agree, but in this particular case it really serves no purpose. All of the games in the Humble Pack, install into their own directories & are autonomous.

The Penumbra Collection has an installer that handles the 3 games in one go also, installing them where you tell it.

Truly, just install the games that way & play, there are no dangers here. wink

I have an x1950 pro card. In the chroot it is just the standard arch mesa.

Breaking news!
For those who have already paid, Humble Indie Bundle now contains Samarita Design's (you know them from Machinarium, right?) Samarost 2. Great news and great game!

Hm, then I am curious how it will run on my HD4670 if the mesa drivers are more mature. Esp. since my X1900XT run a good bit slower than my HD4670 although under Windows both cards provide a pretty similar performance.

By the way, today they added samorost 2 to the humble pack, ready to download 'for free'.

Maybe that's because you've got an analog joystick plugged in?

It's not a joystick. I sometimes get the same thing and it results from some stupid mouse registering as a joystick.
It happens with my Microsoft Wireless Desktop Receiver 3.1A (I think, not using it now). I resolve it by unplugging it before I start the effected program, but if it's a keyboard/mouse combo that may be bad if you use a desktop PC (maybe "sleep 5; gish" would work as you unplug it).

If anyone knows about how to stop such mice from registering a joystick please tell us.
