hey guys
just moved to arch and having fun trying to figure out how to get things working properly. i have just got gnome to start up with a couple of hicups with xorg (not displaying my screen) so i deleted the xorg.conf file and got it going by hal.
but now trying to figure out how to get my resolution properly set as the monitor preference only goes as high as "800x600" and i wanted it to be "1024x768" .
Now my question is how do i fix this as i tried the xorg.conf but nothing changes
hope someone cant help
cheers dave
PS "what a great OS"

What video card? Did you install the driver?
Don't break the silence unless you can improve upon it.

You have quite an old graphics card there, I'm guessing that X.org is falling back to using the VESA driver. Try installing an older nvidia binary driver, such as nvidia-173xx or nvidia-96xx and the relevant utils as well, you should find that solves your problems.

thanks guys but i figured it out
What i did was Xorg -configure and edit the /xorg.conf.new to my specs and then copy to /etc/X11 and for some reason it works WHAT A MIRACLE
