Hi guys, I have compiled my own vaniila kernel, I am wondering if I still need kerenl26-firmware? is it a part of kernel26 or I assume my compiled kernel has included firmware?
Thanks

No you don't, they are built if you need them (or they are built every time I'm not sure, I think there's a configuration option for this). Anyway the vanilla kernel is stand alone, and thus wouldn't depend on an Archlinux package. I don't know if there are differences between the mainline firmwares and the Arch ones. But if all your hardware works just leave it that way :-)

Don't assume anything - it's not a good habit to get into. If you want the firmware included in your custom kernel, you need to run 'make firmware', but there will be no difference between the resulting files and those provided by the arch package.
FWIW I use a custom kernel with the stock kernel26-firmware package
