etc-update for arch ?

hi , i have a bad english , but i hope that you will understand me smile

i don't undersand why it don't have an etc-update for arch, because if you don't see regularly your .pacnew file , you can't see new stuff like for the last initscripts with the @ for the daemons or for the /etc/group.

So yesterday i wrote a litle script (i very beginner with bash smile ) wich try to do like the etc-update of gentoo :

fichiers .pacsave
-----------------

1 ) ./fam/fam.conf.pacsave
2 ) ./test.pacsave
3 ) ./group.pacsave
4 ) ./httpd/conf/httpd.conf.pacsave
5 ) ./ap_manuf.pacsave
6 ) ./kismet_ui.conf.pacsave
7 ) ./conf.d/gpm.pacsave
8 ) ./kismet.conf.pacsave
9 ) ./gnokiirc.pacsave
10 ) ./sensors.conf.pacsave
11 ) ./hotplug/usb.usermap.pacsave
12 ) ./hotplug/usb.distmap.pacsave
13 ) ./hotplug/blacklist.pacsave
14 ) ./hotplug/usb.handmap.pacsave
15 ) ./client_manuf.pacsave
16 ) ./kismet_drone.conf.pacsave

fichiers .pacnew
-----------------

1 ) ./test.pacnew
2 ) ./modprobe.conf.pacnew
3 ) ./fstab.pacnew
4 ) ./group.pacnew
5 ) ./passwd.pacnew
6 ) ./ld.so.conf.pacnew
7 ) ./rc.local.pacnew
8 ) ./modules.conf.pacnew
9 ) ./rc.conf.pacnew

==> what de you want to do ?
==> -------------------------

1) view_diff_pacnew 3) move_a_file_pacnew 5) delete_a_pacnew_file
2) view_diff_pacsave 4) move_a_file_pacsave 6) delete_a_pacsave_file
#?

you can find it here :
http://home.tele2.fr/geekitus/trouver

it certainly possible to increase the speed and to add some new options , if anyone can continue this script and to "clean"  it ... (i have separate .pacnew and .pacsave to try to inscrease the speed )

*arf, sorry i forget to translate to english some word in the script like "fichiers -> files"

if anyone have suggestions or idea ... say it smile

Re: etc-update for arch ?

I must have missed something. What is the @ used for in the DAEMONS array?

Edit: Oh, wait. Backgrounding of daemons during startup... cool!

Nice!
I have several times thought making such script. I haven't check my /etc for months not wanting to take the trouble manually going through the config files. With your script I don't mind keeping my system updated. wink

I will download and let you know how it works.
