alsa headphones disable speaker sound

Hi everyone,

sometimes, when I've used headphones on my laptop i don't get sound from the speakers anymore. This, i believe, doesn't happen immediately but i rather notice it when rebooting the next time. In that situation i would get sound through the earphones but no sound from the hardware speakers. Sometimes, plugging in and out the headphones fixes the problem.
This is on a Lenovo Thinkpad X200s with audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03).
Sound has luckily always worked ootb so i don't really have any configuration files. I just use the alsa daemon to save/restore my settings at shutdown/boot.

I can't really reproduce it and i couldn't find anything about it on the net.
For now I've added some module options to /etc/modprobe.d/sound. Can't confirm if they work though.

Maybe one of you knows what's going on and how i can prevent it from happening again?

Thanks,
demian

Re: alsa headphones disable speaker sound

Just a guess, but it's probably the headphones muting the speakers when they are plugged in. Then if you shut down with the headphones still plugged in, alsa "remembers" this and restarts with the speakers muted. See if just "unmuting" the speakers fixes this when it happens.

Mute was the first thing I've checked, of course.
It's definately not that easy.

Maybe you have already seen this, but it might be of some use.

Perhaps there is a specific "model" that needs to be set.
