I have a external HD with some partitions. When I plug in it, dmesg say:
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
scsi6 : usb-storage 1-6:1.0
scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access USB TO I DE/SATA Device 0041 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
sd 6:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI diskBut I can't see any partition, and I can't mount /dev/sdb, and fdisk can't read it.
I've install HAL, udev and autofs, and I've tried rules from Wiki for external HD with partitions but nothing seems to work.
Some idea?
Thanks

Plug that drive in then show us the output from "sudo fdisk -l"

Hi lagagnon.
Thanks for your quick response. "Problem" is solved. Sometimes we forget basics things.
There were no problem with Arch...
Simply, HD must have master swicth ON.
I've never worked with internal IDE by usb adapters. Now I know that this is an important detail.
Now HD is working well, ("como la seda!") and I am restoring personal files. ![]()
Next step.. configure a robust backup policy.
Thanks again for your time.

It would be nice to mark this as solved. It will help others searching for the same problem.
