Does anyone actually get any real help on IRC? When I stopped going (for various reasons) it was mainly discussing the same topics over and over again. Real fun, but not much practical use....

Hehe, i like it too.

Yea, since irc can't be 'searched' that easily like the forum, topics tend to get discussed repeatedly.

Re: Arch Linux Help Guide Flowchart

nice one, for downgrading packages you could also point people to the arch rollback machine (or other backup repos), though you might avoided that deliberately since they're not official sources

Put it on the front page, at least of the wiki smile

Re: Arch Linux Help Guide Flowchart

Lol, one flaw though.

following the right most branch, if you fail after checking the wiki, that should also go back to post a request on the forums.

Re: Arch Linux Help Guide Flowchart

Ok, I've updated the flowchart following the suggestions so far (IRC, ARM, Berticus) and tweaked a few things.

Btw, trying to control edge label position with dot is frustrating.

I've gotten tons of help on IRC.

If the wiki fails, and google fails, I go there.

Re: Arch Linux Help Guide Flowchart

Haha, made me laugh.

One thing I did notice though, is that the rhombus regarding Forum posts has "error qmessages".  I should assume that's a typo?  Doubt anyone would go through the trouble to correct it, but I just thought I'd point it out.

Re: Arch Linux Help Guide Flowchart

@pillz
The chart never implied that IRC can't be helpful, only that one might encounter less-than-friendly responses. The IRC community is quite different from the forum community in my experience, but maybe that's changed.

@lswest
Fixed the typo. The graph is generated with "dot" so all I had to do was fix the typo in the text file then run the dot command again, so no real trouble at all.

Sounds good.  *goes off to read up on dot* tongue

Seriously though, nice job with the flow chart!

Re: Arch Linux Help Guide Flowchart

As mentioned in the OP, the dot file can be found here. Just save that as "arch_linux_help_guide.gv" then run

dot -Tsvg -oarch_linux_help_guide.svg arch_linux_help_guide.gv

and presto! A flowchart appears.
