This has been an issue for a long time now, but find it time to ask about it. My problem is that Brasero doesn't detect blank discs. However, with Nautilus it detects the disc perfectly, the same with wodim.
Why is is that Brasero fails to detect my discs? Is this a package error, or what?

I also have this problem with brasero, gnomebaker and graveman. xfburn works, for some reason, and so do cdrecord and wodim. Haven't tried with nautilus, though.

Search the forums for 'brasero blank' and try one of the solutions found there. Actually, I think it may be the same solution posted in different threads.

Did a search, and I have tried some of the solutions, but nothing yet.

Because Brasero is one huge fail. It never worked. I maybe managed to burn one or 2 discs with it succesfully over the past couple of years, but I was always afraid when I used it. Most of the time it won't even detect a burner!
The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

It used to work fine for me I had the old old old version but finally it doesn't work now since one of the dependancies has been updated and now brasero wont start without it. I used it for a long time and I had this issue before so I just rolled back. I was forced to update and was scared of this problem where a blank cd wouldn't be detected.

I got same problem and accidentaly resolved it while I was trying to get trash and external devices working with pcmanfm2. You need to install gvfs and add "dbus-launch" to your xinitrc, eg:
exec dbus-launch openbox-session
or run brasero by
dbus-launch brasero
hope it helps

Indeed, starting Brasero with dbus-launch resolves the problem!
Thanks, man!

I just encountered the same problem. I confirm that
dbus-launch brasero
is the way out of the problem.
Thx for that. Should be add in the wiki one way or the other (dbus page troubleshooting?)
