Kernel Panic with NTFS

I've recently decided to convert my Windows/Linux shared partition from FAT32 to NTFS.  Since I also decided to upgrade to 64bit, I went ahead and installed a fresh copy of Arch64.  The install went smooth until it was time to format the NTFS partition.

Every time I ran "mkntfs" on my partition, I always get a "host controller halted very bad" kernel panic.  I decided to try to format the partition in Windows and it completed without a hiccup.  I could then mount the partition in my Linux system using ntfs-3g, but then my system locks up whenever I do any heavy read/write operations on the ntfs partition.  I couldn't copy any of the data back onto the partition because my system would lock up each time I tried.

I couldn't find any logs in /var/logs that had a complete documentation of the lockup.  Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: I reinstalled another fresh version of Arch64, but this time mkntfs crashed with the error message

BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000000000c2
