Howto NOT cache data (to keep CODE into RAM)

Hi All,

I have a laptop with 2 gig of RAM, and linux is running very fast on it...most of the time.

Whenever I copy a large file, it takes seconds for the laptop to respond to mouseclicks. This is because the filecache is overwritten by the large file, so everything has to be re-loaded from the harddrive. To make matters worce, the harddrive is very busy copying the large file.

I would like to prevent the filecache from being wiped by the large file. My data is on one partition, my system is on another. Is it possible to mount my data partition in such a way that it is not cached?

PS, is workstation user the correct place to post this in?

Best regards,
Cedric
