Just upgraded to a new machine, DVD burning is ridiculously slow with speeds of about 107KB/s. The same in k3b and the command line, as a normal user and as root. Wodim --devices reports it as 'hp' 'DVD-RAM GH40L' I've found a couple of similar problems on google, but not really any answers, I guess the drive is just not good with linux and I'll have to change it. Don't suppose anyone here has the same drive?

I did not have the same drive but another LG Bluray burner but it behaves like the same. only about 100KB/s write speed. It works faster in ubuntu with at least 4000KB/s (which is the maximum for my dvd+rw medium)

Did you check with other media? Maybe it's a compatibility problem with the media you're using.

Tried a variety of media and a few distributions, including ubuntu. No joy. Drive works as expected in windows so must be a linux issue. I've dug out an old external DVD burner I can use for the time being.

I fixed it with this kernelpatch:
http://groups.google.de/group/linux.deb … 7cbd81deaf
and this kernel options
libata.atapi_an=0 libata.dmadir=1
You should also try the original cdrecord not the forked one. Install out of aur
