keyboard troubles

Hello, I am having keyboard troubles.  I use an icelandic keyboard and I have successfully set up the keyboard in KDE and for the terminal, the only problem is that I seem to have a glitch, that is if I press the ALT tab I get "oiu'" and therefore I cannot use the @ (ALT+q) witch is really inconvenient.

Using xev as described in the wiki, i.e. the command

xev | grep -A2 --line-buffered '^KeyRelease' | sed -n '/keycode /s/^.*keycode \([0-9]*\).* (.*, \(.*\)).*$/\1 \2/p'

gives me the following results

36 Return
179 XF86Tools
32 o
31 i
30 u
76 F10
95 F11
35 apostrophe

Any advice and/or directions would be greatly appreciated.
