Which video card should I buy?

Hi!

I have a very noisy video card (ATI non-referent) and I decided now that I will sell it and I will buy a new one.
What would you recommend? I don't play video games but maybe I will have a new monitor before I will have a new computer so it should be able to deal with good resolutions. (but power is not that important) The video card also shouldn't be expensive. (Anyway I need more general recommendation, because I live in Switzerland and there won't be the same supply as in your country.)
The most important thing is that the video card should be quiet or the fan should at least be easily controllable!
(The one of my video card is not controllable at all at extremely noisy... sad )

Best regards

Re: Which video card should I buy?

I heard that one before. (I really hate myself because of buying this non-referent piece of crap from asus)

One guy from the company I usually buy told me (by e-mail) that the proprietary drivers from nvidia got worse nowadays. Also I have a problem that I only bought a 350 W power supply and nvidia is known for having worse power efficiency than ATI. So I worry about having to buy a new power supply which I actually don't really need because I never use 100% of my computers power...

Re: Which video card should I buy?

It sounds like you are in a similar situation as I am. I have a Radeon card that works fine, is a little old, and is pretty noisy.

I am considering buying this card from Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814187034 It's a Geforce 9500 GT. It's pretty cheap, has no fan so is silent, and is not the best and not the worst video card on the market.

The only problem for me is, I'm not sure yet how my Haiku installation will behave with it... hmm

Re: Which video card should I buy?

I'm lucky: My friend (windows user) exchanges his ASUS EN9600GT HTDI/512M, GeForce 9600 GT, 512MB GDDR3 with my ASUS EAH4850 MATRIX/HTDI/512M. Mine is better on the benchmark but his is a GeForce!

My question: Will I be able with at least one driver to get a acceptable noise level?
