I know. I know. Someone already posted this. Sorry.
I also pinged google.com successfully.
But, pacman-S python is still not working I keep getting
python package not found, searching for group...
error: 'python': not found in sync db
pacman -Syy is successful
pacman -Syu says the local database is up to date
when i wget a package, I cat core.db.tar.gz and i get an HTML redirect file.
What's going on?

Sounds like it's time to use another mirror. Change it in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.

Point me to a currently working mirror?

Sure! **points thataway**
Edit: I should probably mention that when you have any problems, the first place to look is the wiki. You might find a detailed guide to a solution.

Dont forget that if pacman cant find a pkg, its possible it may not be within arch's repos. Check either the AUR for a pkg build or just dl the tarball from the program site to compile it.

Or use an AUR helper like packer (my favorite) or yaourt. It will search both the official repos and the AUR
