Hi arKers,
[kde-unstable] repository is again working. I packaged the first beta of KDE 4.5 for x86_64. (you have to wait some days for i686 packages)
From my experience with KDE, the first beta is not really usable; I enabled kde-unstable for people that cannot wait more or developers.
Note, I do not suggest you to update to KDE 4.4.80 for desktop use.
Save your data! Remember to backup your ~/.kde4 directory before the update!
NOTE: kdepim 4.5 will NOT be released with KDE 4.5.0.

I have installed KDE SC4.5 from this repo few hours ago and didn't find mentioned issues. I have a wallpaper and kdm working. But ktorrent and kmail from extra and as minimum kopete (may be something else) from here aren't working
PS: Why there are not debugging symbols in packages?
Offline
About KDM maybe is something related to my Intel card.
I used a new user to try KDE and I got a black wallpaper.
This repo is just a packaging of KDE; you can rebuild yourself the packages and enable debug symbols.

it also fails on my nvidia card

This is the kind of thing I like about Arch -- x86_64 gets priority over i686.

KHTML on beta1 seems broken, that's why if you open any KDE app which uses KHTML on KDE 4.5 now from [kde-unstable] will crush.
Where can we fetch the PKGBUILDs? "abs" didn't get the PKGBUILDs from [kde-unstable], just two of them:
~ $ ls /var/abs/kde-unstable/
grantlee libdbusmenu-qt
---------
Powersaving is not working. Using powersaving in "Power management", doesn't drop CPU to lower states and it's always in Performance mode.
---------
I've prepared a draft of the KDE 4.5 wikipage in my wiki profile.

At least they are available via the svn web interface, just manually change 'trunk' to 'kde-unstable'.
I assume that you are on i686? I suppose it should work if you fetch x86_64 via abs (not tried).

On x86_64 there are no PKGBULDS via abs too.

Did you try on AUR?

There are no repo dirs for kde-unstable and as a result abs wont show these. You need to checkout from svn directly.

Hmm.. I just upgraded, Akregator&Kopete doesn't seem to work at all, does anyone else have same problem? And might it be related to the KHTML situation?
edit: Ah.. I guess it's :d

Confirm. My kopete crashes immediately after connecting.

Am I the only who has lancelot applet broken? I have neither lancelot nor shelf applets working Is it my, packaging or upstream problem?

You may try to compile kwebkitpart (it is in extragear/base) and set it as the default embedded viewer (instead of KHTML) for text/html mimetypes in File Association. I've no idea if it will work...
BTW, I just saw that new tarballs (4.4.81) have been uploaded to download.kde.org unstable... Maybe they solve some of the problems you are encountering

Thanks for advise, I'll check it.
Also, when 4.4.81 will be in kde-unstable?

when is ready
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Seriously, these beta releases are more about finding out how to package stuff etc.. It wont be really usable for end users.

FWIW I figured out why kdm does not start:
A user 'kdm' needs to be created. The 'genkdmrc' is supposed to do this, but it only works on debian at the moment (there has been an email about this to the kde-packagers mailinglist). It can easily be done manualy as follows:
'useradd -d /var -M -r -U kdm'.
Alternatively, I guess it might be possible to revert to the old behaviour (where the root user is used), but I don't know how to go about that.

Αs I said in the previous post, it's a KHTML problem.

never. kde-unstable is not a snapshot repository.
4.4.85 should be released 9th June.
@ tomegun
Thanks, I'll look into.

@bash: http://randomguy3.wordpress.com/2010/06 … ng-issues/
Apparently this could be the solution of some of the crashes…
He even created an AUR package for it http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37728

thanks pano, I read that too.
I'll test/package dbus-core-mt with the beta2.
Updated the first post.

For the khtml crash, rollback gcc version to gcc-4.5.0-1 (I used http://arm.konnichi.com/2010/05/16/core/os/x86_64/) and rebuild kdelib.
It seem to be a gcc bug, the kde bugtrack can be found here : http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238705

we rolled back the gcc commit causing this for the kde 4.4.4 release as the kde 4.4* series were also affected. Khtml works again with gcc 4.5.0-4
[edit] did a -2 release of kdelibs which fixes the broken khtml stuff

I can confirm, that KDE SC 4.5 Beta 1 runs *a lot* more stable with the new kdelibs-2 release. I also installed the dbus-core-mt.
After that all I had to do was recompile the apps that fail to start due to "undefined symbol" errors (so far: KMail, Choqok).
