Trying to install Arch on a new Toshiba e205 after my HP dv6780se screen completely fell off and i tried screw that bitch back on. Any ways it ended up breakin took it to bestbuy and got a new one when they couldnt fix it. I tried the Ubuntu live cd to see if it works but after i choose to test it(run it live?) the screen goes blank and stays that way. No buttons work so no ctrl-alt-any button. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off which is very bad.

The new i5's Intel GPU needs 2.6.33 kernel.

so do i wait for it to be included into the next arch release or....?

Οr you can build it from aur (kernel26-git for example). kernel26-git and xf86-video-intel-git, without xorg.conf.

That's because the new i5 hardware is too new, I don't even know if there is a working driver on Windows 7.

The main problem with that setup, is the intigrated gpu, which is not 100% supported yet.

I'm talking about the new generation, with the new Intel GPU. I also have the previous i5 generation, without the Intel card.

Ironlake has been around for a while in linux kernel, I think since 2.6.30 dev, thats the IGDNG portion of the intel drm code (they've relabeled it to Ironlake when Clarkdale was released recently). There will be a benchmark soon on phoronix, looks as though they have problems with running opengl benchmarks, 2D and kms is running just fine.

What is your graphic card ?

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Luckily, the new snapshot of arch(2010.5) has kernel 2.6.33, so you can now use your new laptop.

I've heard there are problems with laptop support but my desktop with i3-530 (clarkdale, 2in1) worked perfectly fine with 2.6.32.
