Re: We need an official pavkage for the new Linux Chrome stable version

AFAIK Arch devs have decided to package chromium only in the official repos, so chrome will remain in the aur.

Chrome takes its source from Chromium and thus I doubt it will ever overtake Chromium. They are mostly the same with Chromium being more bleeding edge while Chrome, being a little behind, might be more stable. Chromium also does not have certain usage tracking features such as RLZ or clientID.

Google chrome will never be part of our repo due to licensing. (there is also no need to as chromium is technically the better choice; e.g. chrome was build on old libs on ubuntu etc.)

Yes, you should go for AUR google-chrome. Install it and you will have a new entry on your DE menu, although you can always launch it with 'google-chrome'

Oh, so rejoice is synonymous with 'meh' nowadays? smile

Kinda funny how the instant I read lifehacker's promo of Google Chrome Linux being out of beta I just knew someone would ask for it to be packaged.

I really don't understand why some people want Chrome, considering that Chromium does everything Chrome does (minus tracking your every moves on the Internet).

that is because the arch chromium release is older than the current chrome stable. I hope it gets an update soon.

One can always install a chromium from AUR. They are more up to date.

Re: We need an official pavkage for the new Linux Chrome stable version

venky80 - you could look yourself, you know - archlinux.org/packages.

It's not, btw, and it's also not required to go through the testing repo, as it is not a core package.

fsckd, http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/19647

They built 5.0.396.0 first, it broke on x86_64. Now they're using the latest stable i.e 5.0.375.55.

Re: We need an official pavkage for the new Linux Chrome stable version

@fsckd if you are new using chromium, then we should inform you that chromium has 3 updating channels:

* stable
* beta
* devel

until now we used the beta one because there wasn't a stable release. from know on we will use the stable channel

Re: We need an official pavkage for the new Linux Chrome stable version

The latest google-chrome-dev 6.0.408.1-1 on AUR is wonky.  It is a dev build, but it is still wonky on x86_64.
