I'm trying to figure out how to set the default Window Manager (or change it) in Gnome.
I wish it was a simple gconf change, but it doesn't seem so.
Also, the gnome-wm file is pretty confusing! Is that where you make the change?

I've found a solution here:
http://damumbl.byteholder.de/blog/?p=44
It loads compiz, but it sems to take 5 extra seconds longer to actually load the desktop...
The "Startup Applications" method is faster!
Anyone know the proper way to do it efficiently without showing the fusion-icon in the notification area?
FOr somereason, once in compiz, my left sidebar no longer pops out from auto hide!
Any ideas?

actually, that and a making a compiz.desktop file in /usr/share/applications, like it is described in the wiki, works for me

Cool, works awesome!!
The compiz.desktop file *already exists* whereas the Compiz page tells you to create it. I'm going to edit the page so it is clear and help the Arch community .
The way that whole page is worded seems like you have to create everything from scratch and as though you have to do more than one command where infact you have to *choose* a command.
To those of you wondering, follow the new and improved instructions on the Compiz page:
