Ubuntu 10.04 themes doesnt work correctly on arch's gnome

hi,
i installed ubuntu themes, but theres small problem with window decorations, when theres one button only, i see that ugly square which makes me think thats its cut. in ubuntu theres no such problem. anyone know solution?

did the theme come with icons? if not, you have to find out what icons the ubuntu theme uses.

It is not an icon problem. With the icons installed it is the same.

I believe that problem also exists with the theme on Ubuntu itself.

this is how mine looks

You need to change your menu layout in gconf editor. Go to gconf editor and then go to apps/metacity/general and the change the value of

button_layout to:

menu:maximize,minimize,close

i tried to change, but still no luck, i still see that ugly square. how did you made it to work to you?

Maybe you need one of the engine's ubuntu uses.
There are two I can see in AUR.
gtk-engine-ubuntulooks
gtk-engine-murrine-ubuntu

ubuntulooks is theme last used on 8.04. its no longer maintained. murrine ubuntu is from ubuntu 8.10. it looks like ubuntu developers modified metacity source, while arch has vanilla metacity

Ubuntu folks didn't do anything about it... looks the same on ubuntu, so currently no fix. Also, i think their latest theme is completely murrine based but don't quote me on this one metacitys decorations doesn't have anything to do with the theme engine anyway.

you totally misunderstood me. look at the screenshot again. Im not talking about gtk theme im talking about metacity theme. Look at close window button on top right of window, do you see that theres ugly background around button? that is the problem, and ubuntu doesnt have it.

Ubuntu 10.04 is patched to work with this theme...

Search 13_better_support_for_button_layout.patch in Google...

Don't know if patching compiz gtk decorator is needed...

Now look at that. Ubuntus patched metacity goodness doesn't seem to like me. So, nevermind.

I have the problem with the light theme also but not with the dark one pretty weird
