Hello
I'm kind of a newbie at Arch. I have done one install on my IBM laptop, no problems. (and some other distro's earlier)
I had an idea to set up another machine for a specific purpose; To recieve an audiostream and play it back without the user having to do anything but start the computer. This for rehersing with my band over the net.
So my questions are:
What latency could I expect using Jack and Turtle Beach Santa Cruz?
What media player is good for low latency playback of streams?
How to create scripts for this to launch at startup?
Is there any difference in the time the encoding takes at the streaming computer between different formats, mp3/FLAC/ogg etc. It could even be uncompressed audio, like 8-bit wav if that's any advantage in terms of latency.
The hardware is pretty vintage. It's an Compac Proliant 500MHz, 100MHz FSB, 384MB RAM. The audiocard is as mentioned Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, sold in europe under the name Videologic SonicFury.
No X-server will have to run.
