Hi there,
I am using KDE desktop and an external USB soundcard. Audio works through every program using the external USB card except for Chromium. There is one exception audio does work through headphones on chromium so I guess that cancels out flash.
I have read brebs threads regarding similar scenarios but from what I can find there are none specific to this problem.
I had the same problem when using Kubuntu Karmic on my laptop using the same USB soundcard and never solved it.
Is there anyway I can configure my system to direct audio from Chromium to my USB soundcard?

Some progress. For the first time in about a year I have just found that sound works through chromium when the external USB soundcard is ON when I boot the sytem.
Any ideas?

You don't really provide enough information, specifically what audio backend you're using.

I really don't know enough about it but I am using ALSA and when I go to audio in Media KDE preferences it says that the backend is gstreamer.

I'm not sure whether this helps but cat /proc/asound/cards list the following:-
~]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfbffc000 irq 28
1 [default ]: USB-Audio - USB Audio CODEC
Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC at usb-0000:00:1d.0-2, full s

I'm not sure what your problem is, but could this be of help: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=92009 ?

Thanks for the suggestion but ALSA is working and is already in the daemon array inside rc.conf

There's one more suggestion in the thread about blacklisting modules.

Thankyou I missed that in the thread. I went back and blacklisted the oss modules but still no luck.

I went through and tried everything in wiki last night one by one but nothing changed.I always have sound available it just changes randomly from external USB soundcard to intrenal HDA-INTEL and works in some programs and then stops working in other programs.
Does anyone with more knowledge about sound architecture have any ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
