[SOLVED] Blank screen after "waiting for Udev uevents to be processed"

Hi,

This is my first try with installing arch linux. I'm stuck with a blank screen after seeing "waiting for Udev uevents to be processed" while installing Arch 2010.5 version. I've seen few threads here but couldn't help me much... I cannot edit any .conf files as I couldn't even install the base system.
It seems like a graphics driver issue of this new kernel. I'm using Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c),

Any idea to get ride of this ?

I have exactly the same problem (which I opened a thread yesterday before I saw yours) but I can't seem to find an answer either. Its seems no one on this forum has an idea of what to do. Have you tried Yellow Dog Linux? It installed the first time without problems. I don't really like it that much (I use Mepis on my other computer) but it's better than nothing.

Re: [SOLVED] Blank screen after "waiting for Udev uevents to be processed"

I also had exactly the same problem when I've downloaded today archlinux-2010.05-core-x86_64.iso and tried to install.
I'm using dell e6410 with intel graphics.
I've solved it by downloading and installing
http://build.archlinux.org/isos/archlin … x86_64.iso
I think here 2010.04 instead 2010.05 is more important than netinstall instead of core. I suppose that there is some problem with new versions of kernel, so 2010.04 works and 2010.05 does not.

Now after installing there is again this problem since netinstall puts new kernel. Now a solution that works is to put i915.modeset=0 in grub:
# (0) Arch Linux
title  Arch Linux
root   (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/... i915.modeset=0
initrd /boot/kernel26.img

see more details http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel in part KMS (Kernel Mode Setting).

May be it is possible to use 2010.05 and put i915.modeset=0 in grub when booting from installation cd.

Follow the wiki in the link above, and specially the part about KMS. Disabling KMS is not a solution since your system might boot, but X won't be able to start. At least it didn't in my case.

I hope this might help someone ... I ran into this issue (or a very similar issue) where udev wouldnt lock up the boot process... so ... i uninstalled alsa-utils.... turns out an alsa module was making udev freak out. Worth a shot if you were like me and nothing else(logical) helped.

Re: [SOLVED] Blank screen after "waiting for Udev uevents to be processed"

Thanks a lot guys, I could manage to install the image "2010.04", and I had to add i915.modeset=0 to grub.cfg after upgrading the kernel. I'm on my Arch+LXDE now, its beautiful yet so fast !

NOTE: When I upgraded the kernel, it stands to 2.6.35.x and I couldn't start X with xfree-video-intel (2.11.1) version as @geniuz said. But 2.9.1 would have worked, but I couldn't get the old packages. As a work around, I had to use xfree-video-vesa driver with kernel mode setting off.

Its been only one week, but It more seems like end of my distro-hopping!!!
I had tried, kubuntu/mint, pclinuxos, opensuse, Fedora... but no body taught me linux anything like what arch did. Earlier I was something like, seeing the movie without knowing the story, but now I can feel whats happening under the hood in my box from the moment its booting up..
JUST GR8!!
