green ghost at login prompt

Why is there now a green ghost following my cursor? Is this payback for substances consumed in younger, wilder days?

No it means your completly stoned from eating way to mutch Wasabi.

On a more serious note, what dm are you using and what do you mean with "a green ghost".

Re: green ghost at login prompt

After updating the latest kernel I now have some green fuzziness after the command prompt before I log into X windows.

- what kernel to what kernel?
- xorg or xfree86?
- what x driver? (radeon? nv? nvidia?)
- as Arn0 already asked: what WM/DE?
- can you be more precise? (can you take a picture of it?)

Re: green ghost at login prompt

I updated to 26.11.3 after a sys upgrade. I use Xorg with an intel 865. But this only happened before starting x or in a virtual console. Is it possible to take screenshots of a virtual console?

The cursor is green. (Or the little line thing that goes after the command prompt.) After this prompt there was a greenish blur. I just had Kontact crash and logged out for a while. This time the green blur was not there.

this sounds strange. do you use framebuffer? if: vesa or some intel module?

so if you close X and come back to console, this strange green disappears? try to switch to console and back to X:

in X do
[ctrl]+[alt]+[f1]
then
[ctrl]+[alt]+[f7]
then
to f2 then to f1 and then to f7 back

does this green thing exist in f2? in f1 when you switch back to it?

Re: green ghost at login prompt

i don't use a framebuffer....(At least I didn't set that up which I had before on another box.)

Currently the ghost is gone. When I switched to another vc the ghost was not there in the new vc. I will keep my eye out for the screenshot. That would be very useful. I actually use vc quite a bit. It is sometimes much more convenient, for me at least, to do terminal things and to use MC on a vc. (I guess I got used to norton commander and never liked anything with icons on a filemanager.)

Anyhow, if it returns I will try to find a way to get a picture of it. If nothing else I will use a digital camera.

Wow. That was fast. I will take a shot if my ghost returns. Anyhow, this is a useful tool to have. Thanks for your replies and thanks to let me know of another useful tool.

Re: green ghost at login prompt

hmm that happens to me I think - the top half of the screen has like green scattered pixels? is that correct?
it only happens here when I switch from X to a terminal... and it hs never done that until the newest kernel / nvidia driver... considering it's video, I'd assume it has to do with the new nvidia

I got a small green splash after the command prompt. (about two centimeters long by one centimeter high.) I don't have nvidia drivers..but anyhow if it returns I am prepared.

Re: green ghost at login prompt

I'm having the same issue, but it's only on vc/7, while switching to and from vc/7, I get lots of tiny green text.

Also, when shutting down, all the colors are faded and gray-green.

Using framebuffer (vga=791) btw and init 5 (to KDM).
