OK so I'm new to Arch
and I've had an install for a month now but didn't use it because ATI didn't support the latest Xorg version
finally checked up on it yesterday and they supported it so I downloaded catalyst and everything was working fine
but then
I upgraded.
now, sorry I'm running from windows this is all from memory I'll go back in and learn to copy and paste with screen I'm just really tired tonight and wanted to document the stuff I've tried so far
gdm doesn't seem to load very well ( just a blank screen with a mouse cursor)
when I run
$ sudo /etc/rc.d/gdm stop
<successfull output>
$ startx &
<can't remember output of xorg but it does mention have a warning about the driver>
<nautilus error lots of lines of gtk pix buffer assertion something rather "something == NULL">
$ killall nautilus
$ DISPLAY=:0 chromium
Bus Error
$I've tried recompiling the graphics drivers but didn't work
I've tried running chromium in gdb and I get an a SIGBUS and "Bus Error" again and straight afterwards a reference to libfreetype.so.6
I'll come back tomorrow
