[papercraft] Archlinux 3D logo in paper

I've made a model for the Archlinux logo, so you can print it, cut it and fold it for making it in 3D:

archlinuxpapercraft.th.png

You can find the .zip with a pdf file for printing, the svg source, and a blender model I made:

http://dl.free.fr/rkbeymYAi

I haven't made it for real at the moment, I hope I haven't made mistakes in the design (some folding lines may not appear in this version).

Re: [papercraft] Archlinux 3D logo in paper

Cool. smile

Am I the first one to actually have it built? wink

Anyway. To everyone who's willing to make one: If you are (like me) a dumb retard with a great lack of motoric skills -- then try to print it on two or more pages. yikes I'm proud that it doesn't fall apart.

Whatever. It was fun. smile

Re: [papercraft] Archlinux 3D logo in paper

Well, the only problem with this it that I don't have a printer in the vicinity.
A bigger problem is that the only color printer in my vicinity is in my wardrobe and only wants to work with windows.

But it's still awesome!!

Re: [papercraft] Archlinux 3D logo in paper

@Vain: you cut it well, but it seems you haven't used any glue?

Here is mine:
papercraftarchlinux3dmi.th.jpg

papercraftarchlinux3dma.th.jpg

I've updated the model, a few parts were missing (inside the "cuts" in the logo). You can find the new files on http://anamnese.online.fr/site2/index.p … papercraft

*d'uh*

Very well done. Looks like you're doing that regularly. smile

The only glue I had around was something like this. It doesn't glue very well -- as you've noticed. hmm And, next time, I'll certainly use paper-clips as well.

Re: [papercraft] Archlinux 3D logo in paper

not bad but I think you're using a paper a bit too thin. Here are a couple of advices:

- Unlike origami, you should use some middle-heavy paper (I find 125-180 gr quite ok)
- Before cutting, use the tip of a cutter or scissors along the line you'll have to fold, so it will fold easier. Just use the weight of the cutter on the line, so you won't cut or tear your paper.
- Use some tiny scissors for cutting the smallest parts. You can also use a cutter or exacto-knife.
- Use white wood/paper glue. Put the glue on a paper before setting it on your model parts, so you won't use too much glue.
