So... The problem is.
I use OSS4. I have alsa installed as dependency to multiple packages.
KDE4 application tries to use sound (for example knotify4) and it crashes > debugging info points to libasound.so.
I use pacman -Rd alsa, kde uses sound just fine, no more crashes, however multiple applications (google chrome) refuse to run, because they're missing libasound.so.
Any ideas how to get around this situation?

A workaround to the problem is to compile for myself gstreamer0.10-base and gstreamer0.10-base-plugins without alsa support, but back when I used kdemod4 (i'm using extra's kde now) I didn't have to go through that trouble...

i really really really have bad experience with gstreamer.
I never had any problems with phonon-xine so i just use this in KDE
GStreamer maybe is fine but only in GNOME

I don't think xine backend is an option for those of us using OSS4...

Try to start a simple player like dragon via Terminal and give the output

Yep, using phonon with xine fixes the problem, thank you.
