radeonhd with RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series]

Hello,

Please, advice me how to configure RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series] to use radeonhd driver in archlinux. I have installed: xf86-video-vesa, xf86-video-fbdev, xf86-video-radeonhd, xf86-video-ati and its dependenscies. But xorg-server 1.8.1 (from testing) always uses xf86-video-ati driver (in stable 1.7.6 too). I try to make 'Xorg -configure' (attached) wich automaticaly generates radeonhd driver, but monitors blank on boot with message 'Not optimum mode'..

Here is my xorg.conf.new:

Re: radeonhd with RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series]

In general: if you don't want 'Xorg -configure' to choose a certain driver, then you'd have to deinstall it.
But if that's your /etc/X11/xorg.conf then I don't know why it would choose -ati ... shouldn't happen.
Any reason why you prefer -radeonhd? I heard most development happens in -ati nowadays.

Re: radeonhd with RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series]

Why do you want to use radeonhd? The xf86-video-ati driver is the better choice.
Read the ATI wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati

If you really want to use radeonhd, you have to disable KMS by appending radeon.modeset=0 to your kernel paramters. KMS is not supported by this driver. And this driver is no longer in development.

Re: radeonhd with RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series]

My videocard works faster with radeonhd. (it was, when i use slackware)

Thank you, now i know that "radeonhd's development has been unofficially halted".. will use ati driver.
