The new design is sweet! Although I personally dislike the blue background, I can see why many people like it. And since all it needs to change it is a oneliner in my .vimperatorrc, it's fine with me.

Tip of the day: if the text seems larger, smaller, bolder, lighter, easier to read or harder to read, it's because the new design doesn't specify a typeface...it uses whatever font your browser is set to for sans serif. Change your browser preferences and the sites will respect it.
Is there anything else to it? Changing fonts preferences in Firefox has no effect here.

The new design doesn't specify a typeface, but it does a size. If you set your typeface to Arial Black or something equally contrasting you'll see it change to Arial Black just about everywhere. My point was that some fonts appear larger than others, even at the same point size so for those users experiencing a slight difference the problem is likely their default typeface.

Ah got it, thanks. Zooming out works for me, I'll just stick with that.

What font did the old one specify?
Personally, I'd rather be back in Hobbiton.

I like the new look. Simple and elegant.

One thing that I am starting to dislike, is the purple color.

I like it too. I'm only using stylish to change purple to light blue and it's perfect.

It does feel a little less KISS if you catch my drift
yes, less kiss, less distinctive, more generic. also designwise (UI-tech) there's a problem with the use of pseudo-windows / boxes on for instance the frontpage, the wrong information is attracting attention (package updates instead of the latest news), and perceived depth/perspective is odd since the news and submenus are in the background while some boxes float above it. some sizes/ratios are also off, like the logo > header row > header bottom-border. this gives a less solid and professional impression.
so, in a technical sense i think it's not a great design, which also effects the viewing experience. the colors...well that's subjective.

I am playing with some little different colors. Due to your feedback I reduced contrast and removed the purple colors. See https://www.archlinux.de (including forums and wiki) for an example. What would you guys think about such colors?

the contrast between the logo and the #333 background of the header is still a little low, the #0088cc border-bottom of the header is too heavy in both size and color (remove it altogether for a moment and you'll see the top of the page becomes more balanced). the paket-suche box still attracts too much attention.
generally there's just still too many components close to the logo in color, the logo should be distinctive and not close in color to links or backgrounds/borders.

I did not change the header at all except making the main menu links bolder. If you have suggestions for the header let us know.

I really like the archlinux.de forum's style.

i know, i was just giving my opinion on the appearance as a whole
the forum on archlinux.de provides a little less contrast than .org, so i would advise not to use that in terms of readability
If you have suggestions for the header let us know.
i think archlinux.org is generally alright, the most significant problems i see:
- body background color, imo you should just remove it for optimal contrast and readability. if you want to keep the background though, you could consider placing most textual content in boxes/windows like the intro and and packages (the latest news block on the frontpage is not readable enough right now)
- logo color frictions with link color and provides too little contrast with header background, change either one
- the border below the header is too wide and draws too much attention, also because of it's color (remove altogether or reduce to 2/3px)

I really like the gray bars with white text that run across the top of each message text box.
The light bluish-purple background looks okay at first too, but something about it becomes rather annoying after looking at the screen for a little while. The lighter colored backgrounds look good though.

I use Stylish with the Archlinux dark grey theme. I can't stand all that white, kills my eyes.

Maybe this is unmentioned, so I'll do so here:
Good new layout! No complaints about colour, or heading, or styles, or anything.
Technical issue about the "Related Projects" link on the main page takes you to the wiki article at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Related_Projects ... except that that isn't the article it wants (because there isn't one there).. instead it should point to
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arc … d_Projects
which is what the search for related projects shows (after you click the afforementioned link and get the 'non-page')
