OpenOffice does not recognize spell check packages (solved)

hello,

I have to run spell check on a document, but it doesn.t work. I installed (thru pacman) the packages: openoffice, openoffice-spell-en, openoffice-spell-nl
but it does not work. The NL package is not recognized at all (in the list of languages it doesn.t give the abc icon in front of the name) and the EN package doesnt work at all... all the words are underlined in red (saying it is incorrectly spelled)

I tried to reinstall openoffice, openoffice-spell-en, openoffice-spell-nl but it didn.t work

any ideas how to solve this?

Try reading the documentation about howto setup the Dutch spelling. The README files are /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo .  That's how I solved the problems with the Dutch spellingchecker.

I had the same problem. I think their is a certain sequence to installing the packages. try removing all the packages in this order like so:

pacman -Rn openoffice-spell-xx
pacman -Rn openoffice-xx
pacman -Rn openoffice-base

where xx is your language. Reinstall them in reverse order:

pacman -S openoffice-base
pacman -S openoffice-xx
pacman -S openoffice-spell-xx

Re: OpenOffice does not recognize spell check packages (solved)

I manually altered dictionaries.lst to get the dutch dictionary to work.

To get the english dictionary working was a bit stranger....
because for instance it is not included in the openoffice-spell-en package.

pacman -Ql openoffice-spell-en

only mentions
openoffice-spell-en /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_AU.aff
openoffice-spell-en /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_AU.dic
openoffice-spell-en /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_CA.aff
openoffice-spell-en /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_CA.dic
openoffice-spell-en /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_NZ.aff
openoffice-spell-en /opt/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_NZ.dic

when I changed the language to en_CA it worked...
