Blender UI is "slow"

The Blender menu UI doesn't appear until I twiddle around with the mouse a bit.  I've heard this was an issue with Triple-buffering on old graphic cards.  So I wanted to ask, how do I disable the triple buffering?  Screenshots on where to set the settings would help.

Re: Blender UI is "slow"

If you have an Intel graphic card, the man page for the driver (man intel) will tell you what option turns tripple buffering on and off. If your board is not Intel, maybe there is a similar option an the man page for your driver.

Best luck.

Re: Blender UI is "slow"

Well, I heard the problem has to do with Blender's default: it triple buffers its visuals.  There should be an option within Blender to stop this, since I know several people had success in it.  However, I can't find the preference options...

I believe the preference is only available within development builds.

For 2.49b and earlier you'll need to change your driver settings (as denisfalqueto said).

Re: Blender UI is "slow"

Ah, OK.  Well, Time to google "ATI triple buffer", then.

Re: Blender UI is "slow"

Hm, disabling triple buffer via /etc/X11/xorg.conf didn't do anything.  Perhaps it has nothing to do with Triple-buffer at all?
Here's what my xorg.conf looks like:

#required
Section "Module"
  Load "glx"
  Load "dri"
  Load "drm"
EndSection

#for ATI
Section "Device"
 Identifier "ati"
 Driver "radeon"
 Option "ColorTiling" "on"
 Option "TripleBuffer" "false"
EndSection

Re: Blender UI is "slow"

*bump*

I also have this problem.
I have an x700 mobility radeon and blender's repainting seems to depend on random mouse twiddling... It annoys me a bit, because the viewport itself runs smooth and fast, but the interface does not update properly...

look here... the solution was already posted. just select something else than triplebuffering!

There is no "Triple Buffer" option for neither blender (2.49) nor the graphics driver... That was why I bumped the topic.
Also, it seems to me that disabling triple buffering corrects problems related to "slowness" of the UI and not the problem of it not being repainted unless you move the mouse

Re: Blender UI is "slow"

Switched to blender-svn from AUR.
Now, GUI is just awesome! (not only for not being laggy, but also for its layout)
