My HDD in my Macbook failed, so I replaced it with an Intel X25-M. I followed Apple's official instructions on how to replace the hard disk, but now I can't get any OS to recognize it. When I attempt to install Snow Leopard it just spits the disk out, and Arch does not register there being any hard disks.
Currently I don't have an enclosure so I can hook it up via usb and see if it's a disk problem. (Sure hope it's not or that's $220 down the drain.)
Has anyone had a similar problem or know of another thing to try? I haven't done anything to the ssd except take it out of the package and drop it into my laptop, should I have formatted it?
Any thoughts are appreciated, I am at a loss.

I'm using an X25-M too. I bought it 5 months ago. It works just fine with Arch.

So you just plugged it in and it was recognized? I'm trying to figure out if I got a faulty drive or there's a broken cable, or if it's something else.

Do you have another machine you can take it in?

Turned out to be a loose cable, drive is in and working like a charm!
Spiridow, any thoughts on disabling journaling? what filesystem did you end up choosing?

I used the auto partitioning, so ext4. I added noatime, nodiratime options to all partitions in my /etc/fstab and discard option to ext4 partitions.
#
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/sda1 /boot ext2 noatime,nodiratime 0 0
/dev/sda2 swap swap noatime,nodiratime 0 0
/dev/sda3 / ext4 noatime,nodiratime,discard 0 0
/dev/sda4 /home ext4 noatime,nodiratime,discard 0 0
#tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0
