Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Please also consider including the patches for the Gobi-wwan-loader.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

I'm not inclined to add external patches to this kernel...The only one that I apply is the arch patchset and I won't include others...But nobody prevents you to take the PKGBUILD and add a line to the sources and a line before make menuconfig smile

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

oops, sorry to have take your first post seriously.
There you stated that you also included external modules.

I already have the module working with the kernel.
Since it was just adding 2 lines to your PKGBUILD, I did not see the need to fork and thought bringing this modul to your attention might help make this kernel more interested to the general netbook audience.

guess I was wrong.

Sorry.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Yes i wanted to say that patching the kernel for only 1 user that requested me a feature that is a "personal request" isn't a peculiarity of this kernel, because after this, other users can say that it is pointless...This is a characteristic of the -ARCH kernel...

Obliviously if  a new feature can expand the compatibility of the kernel to a large sample of users this is another thing, and i've done so for some firmware and driver that are very large used in netbook's hardware...If some other users needs this module I'll include without problems, but the nature of arch would bring to a "if-i-don't-like-it-i'll-change" wink

Thanks for clarifying.
Instead of gainsaying your first post and writing some fubar about not liking external patches, you should have said so directly.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

dieghen89 is there any driver available for rt2870 that enables injection that you could include in the kernel?

I've found this some time ago but I never tryed it:

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Hi coldflame, i've just seen your netbook hardware on toshiba site, and i think it is supported...

Atom N450 - no problems
Intel GMA 3150 - i don't know but i think no problem, the intel drivers are built in
CAM - it uses uvc? no problem in this case
Wireless - i don't found the model / chipset
Bluetooth - i think yes

I can say you, try it and then give me feedback smile If something is missed i can add it into the kernel...

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Hello, I just installed this kernel-netbook on my HP mini 210. This kernel apparently has broadcom-wl installed in it, but I cannot seem to get the wireless to work. On the arch wiki it wants me to modprobe wl, but when I try 'Module wl not found' pops up. Can someone else with a netbook chime in here on how to get wireless working?

EDIT: I just thought this may be an issue. I have my system installed under btrfs filesystem. Will that be a problem for this kernel-netbook?

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

Hello,
I'm also a new user of your modded kernel, but currently I can't use it because it mount my / partition as read only.
Do you have any hint about this problem ? Including basis hints because i'm relatively new to archlinux, and linux in general.
Thanks you

---------------------------------------

Do not mind about above, worked with a reinstallation, everything is fine here on a toshiba nb100 netbook, i just cheked toshiba laptop support, and switched to preemptible (3rd choice -> low latency desktop)

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

@japanlinux
excuse me for the late but i'm a little busy in this period...Well, you can try follow this points:

- blacklist b43
- add wl module
- blacklist lib80211_crypt_tkip

such as: MODULES=(!lib80211_crypt_tkip wl !b43)

Reguarding the btrfs, the kernel hasn't the support because to use it is needed an initrd image if i well understood...

I think I will test this kernel when it will be updated.

And I will report how this kernel acts on Lenovo S10-2.

yes for the encrypted partition the initrd image is needed...With other guys in italian forum we can't use that partition with this kernel....

The only solution is to recompile the kernel with initd support but in this case I don't know how many benefits you can gain compared with the stock one...

I'm getting the same error as pielgrzym:

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

Problem is...  I don't have any encrypted filesystems...  Any ideas?  I'm new to custom kernels, so I don't really know where to start.

Well, I thought it was Ext3, but apparently it's Ext4.  I'm not getting the error that the google code page says I should get, but I'm going to try the rootfstype=ext4 option now.

Thanks for making me double check that =P

OK, I add that rootfstype and get rid of the quiet boot option and it tells me it can't find based on disk/by-uuid/, that I should specify sdXN.  I give it root=/dev/sda1, which is my Ext4 root partition, and I get the following:

[stuff about usb, etc.]
...
EXT4-fs (sda1): mounted filesystem without journal. Opts: (null)
VFS: Mounted root (ext4 filesystem) readonly on device 8:1.

and then the machine locks up.

This is the same partition layout (well, her /boot partition is about half the size of mine, and her /home is ext4, but would those matter?) my girlfriend has on her Dell Mini with this kernel, and it works fine.

Re: [Project] kernel-netbook

So you have /boot in sda1 and / in sda2?

In this case you have to put the root=/dev/sda2, try so..

Well, sda3 actually.. but...  ..  Now I feel really dumb.

Gonna try this now.  Thanks.

Yeah, it's working now, of course.  I don't know why I assumed the uuid given in the previous entries was anything but my root partition.  Should have just looked at where that symlink pointed.

Thanks for the help!
