Using my computer for an on-demand service

Hello guys, how you doing tonight?  I got a couple questions if you dont' mind me asking.

I've been thinking about using my computer basically as television for a movie on-demand service.  Currently my computer monitor is better that my tv for watching, so I'm curious if this can be done.  The service includes an on-demand box that has ports for HDMI, component, and composite video.  My monitor has ports for DVI and VGA and I was thinking that I may get sound to work by using the microphone jack.  I've heard of HDMI to DVI adapters for viewing but am not sure how to have audio as well.  Has anyone tried this or have any ideas on how this could work?

Really, no one has tried this before?  Is there something I'm not seeing here?

Re: Using my computer for an on-demand service

In the desktop PC the monitor (Samsung) has VGA/HDMI/AVI port. I subscribed to ip tv. from the settop box connected to the monitor. simply switching between the video mode works. I mean the setup  pc --->monitor<---settopbox. If you mean   settopbox-->pc-->monitor then I am not sure.

Re: Using my computer for an on-demand service

That's not a bad idea to get a new monitor.  My old one is beginning to burn in a bit so this might be of good consideration.  Thanks for the response kgas, definitely worth thinking about.
