GDM not working

When GDM is launched I have no area to enter my username and password so I can't log in...any ideas on how to fix it...? I searched for it and I couldn't find anything that solved my problem.

I got tired of stuff like this and switched to slim.  I've found it to be more dependable than recent versions of GDM.  It's pretty nice if it meets your needs (it probably does unless you use GNOME... and probably even then).
