Reading topic about pacman with database, what DBs are available for linux? Pro & cons? Any DB works with bash?

As for bash..it looks like sqlite is scriptable using the sqlite cli front end..

You do not have to enter the sqlite3 interactive environment. Instead, you could perform all commands at the shell prompt, which is ideal when running bash scripts and commands in an ssh string.

Sqlite support is already present in many applications (including qt lib). It would allow nonprogrammers to use the db too.

They don't have to. There are gui designers/front-ends.

Rekall (ms access like db) should soon have sqlite support:

(I hope it will replace xbase as standard format also in the free version of rekall).

I think new versions of ooo will also support sqlite. There is an alpha driver at:

Maybe the new oo base will somehow support sqlite too.

Gnome db
http://www.gnome-db.org/
says it supports sqlite so it should be usable with mergeant (front-end).

Perhaps there are more. Many applications are still in heavy development stage but should be usable. I guess kexi and rekall are the two most advanced. Everything depends on what kind of usage are you planning.
