CF Card installation issue

Hello,

Please forgive any ignorance on my part but myself and a fairly knowlegable friend have spent several hours
trying to google and debunk this issue: I am unable to have arch64 (latest core image cd) recognise my CF card*.

I am using an IDE>CF adaptor which is set in slave.

We have successfully detected the card and can interact with it under Slackware 13.0 (huge.s - defaults) with the following details:

hdb smi model ata disk drive

lspci reveals that

 AMD_IDE

is the driver in use.

Back in arch, I downloaded hwdetect to ram and ran hwdetect --show-modules:

pata_amd

However when I throw this and as many other modules as I can at boot time** still no success.

the motherboard is an Asus M2N-MX SE Plus (with AMD74xx ide controller..apparently)

* = Disclaimer: not here to debate what is/isnt a suitable install medium: beyond scope of question smile
** = I *think* I was loading it correctly at boot time, since I cant find ANY documentation on the additional options with the new boot cd cant be sure!

Can any kind soul offer some additional advice?

Kind regards,

Mike.

edit: clarity.

Re: CF Card installation issue

It's not recognized when booting from the latest CD?
'dmesg', please.

Re: CF Card installation issue

I'll post a full dmesg (and any other output) a little later on, however I never see a "hdb" appear. (Interestingly, my IDE DVD-Rom drive on the SAME cable DOES appear..go figure)
Gotta crack this one! The Slackware guy is laughing relentlessly tongue

Re: CF Card installation issue

I'm a bit surprised no ones able to help with this. Normally you guys are pretty up on things smile
I'll be happy if anyone can give me the add-on commands to the boot CD startup in order to get IDE devices recognized -kitchen sink approach-

Re: CF Card installation issue

Well, it is hard to help with the lack of information.

CF card model?  Adapter model?  And dmesg, previously requested.

Does the adapter have DMA settings?  I can't find any solid docs on the pata_amd module, but it might have config options.

to also restate a question I had, does anyone know of an equivilant to Slackwares "huge.smp" kernel for live cd installation, a kitchen-sink
style boot may fix this if noone has any ideas about specifics.

Thanks.

Re: CF Card installation issue

Sorry for the late reply, been a week off...

You should try to load the module manually: 'modprobe ide-cs'
Then look at dmesg again if the device got created.

I will definitely try this, thank you!

Re: CF Card installation issue

After all, I think that wouldn't work. It's a bit more difficult:

modprobe -r pata_amd
modprobe amd74xx
modprobe ide-cs

But then it should show results.

Re: CF Card installation issue

I'm afraid that did not work : ( also I couldn't unload pata_amd as it was in use yikes not sure if that would have made a difference)

Further details, the adaptor I'm using is labeled:

HSXSP-2108P

and the CF card just says:

CF/4GB 2003 Memory Technology Company Inc.

Re: CF Card installation issue

Mh.
Try booting the CD with "disablemodules=pata_amd"
(in the menu, hit TAB and append it)

Hi,

Tried disabling pata_amd at boot, and realised that my CDROM drive depends upon it, so naturally, the boot hung.
tried again with enablemodules=amd74xx disablemodules=pata_amd but no luck there either >: (
