ATi Radeon HD5750 - issues

I've got an ATI Radeon HD5750 graphics card which is dual booting with Windows. When I play a mkv file with VLC in Windows it plays fine but when I play the same file with VLC in Arch it has a line that flickers through it every little while.

I am not sure if I have the right drivers installed so would love it if someone could tell me how I install the right drivers. I am only new to Arch and I used the Arch Beginners Guide to set everything up.

Thanks in advance

Re: ATi Radeon HD5750 - issues

The open-source ATI drivers are still in a early state of development, although they do work quite well for 2D on somewhat older cards. Development for the HD5xxx series, aka "Evergreen", just started fairly recently, you can do some reading on these forums (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=79509) and on the Xorg page (http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon).
Maybe you should try the proprietary drivers, but I can't help you there, never used them myself.

I propose to use the closed source driver: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst
With the OS driver you don't even get 2D acceleration for your card: http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature
