gnumeric hyperlinks do not launch browser

When I click on a hyperlink in gnumeric, I get a message box that says the following:

Invalid Unable to activate the url 'xxx': 'Operation not supported'

(The url is censored.)  How do I get gnumeric to launch links?

This is a bug in our package.  From the gnome Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=621223

I'm going to file a bug report for our package in our bugtracker.
