Even if it comes out next week then still it's years too late to be new or exiting...

I like the 'live update workspace switcher'. The random theme generation was nice too. Personally, I like the java desktop Sun came out with a while back. I forgot it's name, but that's my idea of how a DE should be. This stuff kind of reminds me of that same direction.

When it's ready with the bathroom and the cat.

I doubt you mean Project Looking Glass? I only mention it because I installed it yesterday for fun. Not at all useful yet... kind of fancy effects. Not as cool an idea as Ensmer. 8)

Dusty, whichever one had those 'peel' away 3D windows, kind of analogous to switching workspaces (or tasks). I think that's what it was called. It appeared on /. awhile back.
That's what I call 'revolutionary' desktop design. I haven't checked out Ensmer yet.

Pardon, but I think the only people who'd want this are eyecandy addicts... Sure, you could have windows that wobbled, etc., but why? Isn't real transparency, and perhaps dropshadows, enough? Do you really need a powerful video card to have a nice-looking desktop? I'd say no, and I'm backed by scores of Openbox screenies...

The artcle stated that the WM was running on a laptop with a reletively old video card and OS drivers. I think you'd be hard pressed to purchase a video card now days that couldn't handle it. If you have older hardware and/or love your OpenBox, don't use it.
The more "eye-candy" Linux has, and the more user-friendly it becomes, the more Linux will be respected throughout the world.

D'oh! Wow... Looks like I could run that stuff if I got hardware accel working.
Still, I don't really see a reason for it... And I'll bet that windows flopping around like fish out of water would scare the crap out of Linux newbies.

The only reason to have this is to close the gap between what you can get on those other operating systems and linux with X. Most people only relate to eye candy and don't see what is hidden under the surface. Granted, Mac OS is a contender when it comes to inner workings but the one from the other company just isn't there yet.
People will NOT come to linux from other systems if they can't have graphical user interfaces that look like they are carved from toothpaste and jelly beans. Hell, everytime I boot into WinXP I starting thinking about the Jelly Belly assorted collection sitting next to my 2 liter Dr. Pepper in the pantry.
Mmm... sour, buttered, passion fruit jelly beans.

Nah, Windows users love that crap. Why do you think they get so much spyware? Bonsai Buddy anyone?

I saw this stuff a while back. I liked the pager in that test windowmanager.
Reminded me of E16.

Compared to what the E people are doing, this stuff is child's play.

Not sure about that... E17 won't have wobbly windows IIRC. But it will have moving wallpapers...

OH MY GOD! IT WON'T HAVE WOBBLY WINDOWS?!
How will we ever get by?!
Just yankin' your chain.

the most important fact is that everything is hardware accelerated, this way you can implement stuff more usefull than wobbling windows in an efficient way.
I would be pleased to see a dekstop like the one shown in minority repot, this paired with some ion/ratposion/wmi(i) behaviour would rock. Eyecandy paired with usefullness.
also the concept the berlin/fresco people are thinking about (using cm instead of px) would be quite cool on X or directly vector graphics for everything.
I was tempted to use the XGl server, but I did not managed to compile it (I also did not have the time to do it).
