Nvidia tells me I'm running x86

Heya, I'm trying to install the latest nvidia linux x64 driver which is 256.35 for me, when I try to run the file it tells me that I'm running x86 which I don't believe I do. Typing 'arch' in the terminal returns i686.

Re: Nvidia tells me I'm running x86

Well, if you were running x86_64 it should have returned "x86_64".

It is possible to install a 32 bit OS on a 64bit CPU architecture. I've done it too.

x86 is 32-bit, which is what you should expect for the i686 version of Arch.

x86_64 is 64-bit, which is what you should expect for the 64-bit version of Arch.

I know this but I wonder why it tells me I'm not running i686 when I am.

Re: Nvidia tells me I'm running x86

You're running a set of packages optimized for the i686 instruction set of the x86 architecture.    You _are_ running x86.   It's simply the packages that are built for the i686 instruction set.

The nvidia installer doesn't have any concept of which instruction set your system is optimized for - you're running an x86 machine, so that's why it outputs 'x86'.
