any suggestions for an irc client (i prefer tui to gui, but am not attached). i've looked at the wikipage:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison … at_clients
but have no experience with this mode of communication.

Weechat. It is easy to get up and going with in just a minute or two of blasting though irc.conf. The configuration options are very straight-forward.

Irssi is another popular one, I'm really liking Epic5 with amnesiac's scripts.

I use irssi, but I think that weechat have saner defaults
Sorry for my English. Feel free to point out my errors.

Weechat is excellent thing: 1) basic setup is very simple. 2) encouraging possibility of extension.

A troll between irssi and weechat will probably born here
I recommend irssi, it's simple, very KISS.

I like irssi and weechat. I primarily use irssi since I've been using it for so long that I am really used to it.
I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

I like irssi, it was somewhat difficult to customize it in the beginning, but you get used to it.

Just try out a few of them?
weechat and irssi are probably the most popular textual ones. I've used them both, and like them both. However, currently my choice is weechat.
