Hi,
after upgrade to the newest kernel (.34), my laptop puts hdd to sleep very very often
when running on battery. It practicaly constantly sleeps or awakes the hdd, which I really
don't like, because it harms HDD in long-term.
This happens even when no desktop environment is running, so it definitely is not
Gnome's or KDE's fault. Lapto-mode-utils are not installed. There are no acpid rules as well.
What might be causing this - is it the kernel itself? How do I turn this off?

What is the output of `hdparm -B' for your device? It's contained in the package of the same name, in case you don't have it installed.
See also hdparm(8).

$> sudo hdparm -B /dev/sda1
/dev/sda1:
APM_level = 254
Update: Sorry that's while the AC was plugged,
when I upplug and run on battery, it reads:
$> sudo hdparm -B /dev/sda1
Heslo:
/dev/sda1:
APM_level = 1
How do I find out what changes it?

Don't know, if you're still on it, but this thread sounds similar:

Have a look at post #8.
