xvid lag

I've been having, from time to time, lag when playing xvid files.... When I start playing it looks like it stop for 100 ms into one frame...
This doesn't happen every time I play an xvid file... Some times I play 4 or 5 files e the 6° files starts playing bad.
To fix it, I have to restart my computer. I use mplayer/smplayer, but it also happens with gnome movie player.

Does anyone is having this kind of issue? Or have any ideia of how to fix this?

Thanks,
Renan

Re: xvid lag

I guess you could start by running mplayer from terminal and tell us if mplayer is outputting any errors when playing back

**** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
           ************************************************

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
  - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
  - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
  - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
  - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
  - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
  - Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
  - Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips.
If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

Well I really don't think my system is too slow to play this. I use to play video with higher resolution (720p) very well.

Re: xvid lag

Mplayer will throw the 'your system is too slow..." message if it's having problems with the audio also. This (confusingly) includes errors in the encoding.

Re: xvid lag

I had the same problem after some upgrade. mplayer is slow when using -vo gl. When I use sdl, it is fine.

It happens probably after an update of xorg-server

the reason is because I was using xf86-video-ati-git which have to be recompiled against  xorg-server.

Well anyway I switch back to xf86-video-ati which now seems to manage TV-out and works fine with mplayer -vo gl option.
