Gconf broken after Update

Yesterday I upgraded my Gnome box and I was hit by some realy weired issue. When I wanted to switch back from radeonhd to ati (I'm pretty sure it's unrelated) I rebooted and gdm was completely unusable and when trying to login the only thing showing was a complaint by the power manager that it's configuration was wrong.
I tried switching back to radeonhd, no xorg.conf, ati and everytime with the same result.
I managed to start openbox and a terminal but only xterm,tilda, Xfce Terminal work now gnome-terminal says

**
ERROR:terminal-app.c:1450:terminal_app_init: assertion failed: (app->default_profile_id != NULL)
[1]    7917 abort (core dumped)  gnome-terminal

So after pacman -Rd all gnome things reinstalling them, moving ~.gconf to get a new one and all that I still can't get gnome-terminal, metacity and probably others to launch.
When in Openbox I can start gnome-session (this used to crash as well but reinstalling helped here) but it only changes the gtk theme and shows the desktop background, neither the panel nor anything other.
I have switched to Xfce for the moment but I'd really like to get gnome working at least as a fallback and I really like gnome-terminal.
When trying to launch metacity it complains about the workspace shema being invald and out of range or something.
Maybe someone has an idea what could have gone wrong or how to repair my gconf.
Greetings Nik

Re: Gconf broken after Update

to you still have libgnome installed? run "testdb" to check the consistency of your local db

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Gconf broken after Update

testdb exits with no output code 1, 134 and 16 don't know why differing exit codes.
Also there I just noticed evolution doesn't wotk anymore which is my preferred email client so more of a problem then gnome itself.
It outputs:

evolution
(evolution:8989): e-data-server-DEBUG: Loading categories from "/home/niklas/.evolution/categories.xml"
(evolution:8989): e-data-server-DEBUG: Loaded 36 categories

(evolution:8989): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_schema_get_type: assertion `schema != NULL' failed

(evolution:8989): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_schema_get_default_value: assertion `schema != NULL' failed

(evolution:8989): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_new: assertion `GCONF_VALUE_TYPE_VALID(type)' failed

evolution-shell-ERROR **: Unable to create EShellSettings property for GConf key '/desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_application_handlers' of type 'invalid'
aborting...
[1] 8989 abort (core dumped) evolution

Odly enough gconf-editor works and I can't see anyting really odd there even the key '/desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_application_handlers' looks like a normal boolean set to false
