(SOLVED) linux-firmware removes iwl3945

Looks like many are having a problem with linux-firmware package, I tried to find a topic related to my problem but this is slight different

by installing linux-firmware it removes iwl3945, that is my wifi drive

so now I have no wifi

Do I have to downgrade the whole thing (including kernel) to fix this ?
I thought linux-firmware would have this wifi drive, how can I check ?

Re: (SOLVED) linux-firmware removes iwl3945

> pacman -Ql linux-firmware | grep iwl
linux-firmware /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-1000-3.ucode
linux-firmware /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode
linux-firmware /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode
...

Looks like it is still there...

Maybe the kernel didn't load before

sorry for the precipitated topic

Re: (SOLVED) linux-firmware removes iwl3945

What does this mean exactly? Were the iwl3945 drivers "integrated" by the kernel? Is it safe to remove iwl3945 from the modules list?

Either way, my wifi now works whereas I needed to reboot to get it to start in the past, so I'm not complaining.

Re: (SOLVED) linux-firmware removes iwl3945

I think you're right, it means if you install 'linux-firmware' you no longer need the individual iwl3945 (right, Allan?)

it will ask to remove once you install it, so just follow the installation and it will be fine

Re: (SOLVED) linux-firmware removes iwl3945

Thanks for the reply, m4co.

I did replace iwl3945 with linux-firmware, but I was just curious as to what was happening "under the hood", why it needed to be replaced in the first place.
