General question: Why don't linux gaming groups do this???

I get a newsletter from a site called OGPlanet that revolves around PC gaming... they send me exclusives about pre-beta, closed beta and regular beta testing of at least 5 new games a week... thing is, they are all Windows based games... The majority of them are free-to-play MMORPGs.  It just hit me that it would be cool if Linux game developers tried such a thing and churned out even half decent free-to-play MMORPGs (which could have a tiered pay system for exclusive items and content or other things) and do a lot better across the board than the windows lot...

I'd like anyone responding to this thread to research OGPlanet and see what I am talking about.  I'd like people to have educated responses and help spark up a similar game development setup here in the Linux world... we are so busy (linux gamers as a whole) looking to port windows games that we aren't considering simply making our own to the calibur of those we are working to port...  The game list in the repos here (AUR and standard) is much longer than I even imagined Linux Gaming had to offer, but still, we can do better.  At least I can think so.  I'd really like to see this thread lead somewhere, so let's get a discussion going about this and see where it leads!!!

I don't see the point of "churning out" MMORPGs. I don't need "half decent" MMORPGs by the dozen with 12 players each. One good MMORPG with a few hundred players would be better. And good luck finding the money and people to get it done for Linux only. Making a decent game is difficult enough, but MMORPGs are in a league of their own...

Re: General question: Why don't linux gaming groups do this???

I only say decent because most MMOs that I like are fairly indifferent for most people I know...  I think they are really good in most cases (eg: Cabal Online and Perfect World)... not phenominal in the graphics (not necessary, no matter how popular that is SUPPOSED to be), but well detailed fight sequences and unique/interesting/cool abilities/classes... I prefer great gameplay to beautiful graphics...  But I also have to admit that quantity is also the reason that Windows is the supposed power player in the gaming market... there's so much to choose from, that it's difficult to NOT find something you enjoy... and it's not necessarily just in variety.... there's a LOT of games in EVERY genre... high quantities across the board.  With some of that leaking over into the Mac world and much LESS leaking over into the Linux world (without including wine or cedega).
