Printer doesn't finish, but cups no longer generates errors

The problem I'm having is that when I try to print a page, it looks like everything is working, the printer even starts up and begins feeding the page through and I can hear the printing head moving, but then it stops before actually printing.

Printer is a Photosmart 2600 which I set up with "hp-setup -i" (don't have X installed)
command used to print is "lp testpage.txt"

Started with a fresh install, so far I've updated then installed openssh, cups, vim and hplip
Chased down a few errors in /var/log/cups/error_log, so I added acl to the options in /etc/fstab and fixed my /etc/hosts file.  At this point, restarting cups and/or printing additional pages generates no more errors.

Any ideas on what I should try next?
