Re: Archlinux Startup - How can I speed it up?

Regarding the fsck:
a) if you're running Ext2/3/4 turn it off with 'tune2fs -c0 -i0 /dev/sdXY'
b) then, if you want an fsck run 'shutdown -F -r now'

Re: Archlinux Startup - How can I speed it up?

Cheers, Barrucadu!

Lines 227-278 and line 330 seem to be referring to all things fsck and I take it 330 can stay there. So the offending stanza could just be appended to /etc/rc.shutdown? How cool is that...

Will try it one of these days or rather next month, as all my checks went through last week.

Byte - thanks, but that is not a permanent hack.

abraham10 - I've got all my daemons backgrounded bar hal. I had that backgrounded as well, but once kdm came up without my usb keyboard, so there... Chop and change and try out what works for you.

I had not heard of this. I also have network daemon backgrounded,

Ever read the fstab manual? All you need to do to disable the fsck is to change the last two numbers to show 0 0.

Re: Archlinux Startup - How can I speed it up?

I finally installed quick-init today and well let me tell you it's true about the speed. You will boot up to your login manager or system depending if you have it automatic login or not in about 5 secs but one problem is that I couldn't get my network working at all I don't know what the AUR does except for speeding it up. I tryed bringing my network device up several times and manual configuration but nothing work. So I uninstalled it and reverted back. BTW I installed this on my netbook Acer Aspire 532h not the VBox system that I had.
